Chechen residents claim being obliged to clean tourist area
In the village of Khoi in the Vedeno District, employees of ministries and public institutions took part in a subbotnik (voluntary work on Saturday) to clean abandoned territories around ancient towers and buildings, and they had no chance to refuse to take part in the subbotnik, residents of Chechnya reported.
The participants of the subbotnik told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they had been sent to clean the territory under threat of dismissals.
"A subbotnik was organized in the village of Khoi, and we were also sent there. Employees of other ministries, local administration, and young people took part in the subbotnik. The task was to clean up the territories around the ancient tower complexes. The people had no choice but to come to the subbotnik," said Zaur, an employee of a Chechen ministry.
"The public employees who did not want to come to the subbotnik were simply offered to look for another job. Of course, there were no refusals among the employees," said Milana, an employee of a public institution in Grozny.
