Interpol's refusal to search for Chechen Bakaev raises issue of granting political asylum to him

The annulling by the Interpol of a circular on the search for Ali Bakaev, a native of Chechnya, is an important victory of his advocates over Russian authorities, the blogger, Tumso Abdurakhmanov, has stated. The human rights organization named "Vayfond" has noted that the Interpol does this very rarely in relation to Chechen natives, who have no refugee status. Now, Ukrainian authorities can grant citizenship to Bakaev, social networks users have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Russian law enforcers treat Ali Bakaev as the organizer of the attack on a unit of the "Rosgvardia" (Russian National Guard) committed in the Naurskaya district centre. On June 12, 2017, Bakaev's appeal appeared on the Internet, in which he declared his non-involvement in the attack. The Interpol put Bakaev on the wanted list, but then annulled the respective circular. This happened after a lawyers' complaint was lodged, said Mansur Sadulaev, the head of the "Vayfond".

"This is the second case we know, when the Interpol removed a Chechen, who has no refugee status, from the wanted list; the first was the case of Tumso Abdurakhmanov," says the Telegram channel of the "Vayfond".

According to the "Vayfond", when at large after jail, Bakaev applied for political asylum in Ukraine, but was refused.
