Azerbaijani activist Ruslan Amirli arrested for 30 days
A Baku court has found Ruslan Amirli, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) guilty of petty hooliganism and disobedience to the police. Mr Amirli himself has denied all the allegations and stated that he would appeal against the judgement, his advocate has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported referring to the PFPA that Ruslan Amirli was kidnapped by unknown persons in Baku on September 10.
Only this morning, the Amirli's detention place became known – the 29th station of the Yasamal district police department, said Nureddin Mammadli, the chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the PFPA.
The court has sentenced Amirli to 30 days of administrative arrest, finding him guilty under the Articles "Petty hooliganism" and "Disobedience to policeman's lawful demands," said Djavad Djavadov, an Amirli's advocate.
"Allegedly, Ruslan Amirli used obscene language in the street without addressing anybody; and when policemen made a remark to him, he did not obey. Amirli himself has denied the accusation, stating that he was detained right after he left the building of the National Oncology Centre, where he came to visit his sick sister," the advocate told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Ali Kerimli, the PFPA leader, has called Amirli's arrest "a political order."
