Opponents of Amulsar development set deadline to Pashinyan

The activists, who oppose the gold mining at the Amulsar deposit have demanded from the Armenian government to take a final decision on the development thereof by September 20.

On September 11, opponents of gold mining marched along the central streets of Yerevan, demanding from the government to abandon plans of development of the mine, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

According to the organizers, the march was more than 1000 people strong, including representatives of political forces and activists, who have accused Nikol Pashinyan of abusing power and betraying the ideas of the "velvet" revolution. "Pashinyan continues the policy of the former authorities, by patronizing the company that received a permit to mine gold, and by promoting its interests," Ani Khachatryan, an activist, stated during the march. Most people don't believe in the safety of mining, she has added.

The march ended in a rally held in front of the government building in the central Republic Square, where activists declared September 20 as the day of environmental mobilization. On this day, the government should make a final decision on this issue, they have claimed.
