Dagestani resident declares falsification of testimonies in case of helping militants

Magomedamin Vagabov, a resident of the village of Gubden, accused of helping militants, has stated in court that the protocol of his first interrogation contains fabricated data.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 12, 2018, Magomedamin Vagabov, a Gubden villager, whose father was a brother of Magomedali Vagabov, the leader of Gubden militants, killed in 2010, was detained on suspicion of storing a grenade and cartridges. According to the defence, prior to detention, Magomedamin was kidnapped, and he pleaded guilty after torture. His father, Khabib Vagabov, has stated that the reason for his son's persecution was his conflict with some law enforcer.

The Gubden militant grouping operated in 2010 in the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan and was considered to be the most active part of the republic's armed underground. Its leader, Magomedali Vagabov (Amir Seyfullah Abu Abdullah), was killed in Gubden during a special operation in August 2010.

The Vagabovs' story shows how the repressive state machine, by pursuing performers' personal interests, is breaking fates and lives of tens of thousands of people, Denis Sokolov, the head of the RAMCOM Centre for Socioeconomic Regional Studies, stated in 2018.

According to law enforcement bodies, in 2017, Vagabov was put on the so-called "extremist prophylactic registration list".

Meanwhile, the Imam of the local mosque has stated that Magomedamin Vagabov is professing the traditional Islam and had not participated in any extremist communities.
