In North Ossetia, activists organize women's movement after Regina Gagieva's murder

A resident of Vladikavkaz was accused of brutally murdering his former wife. Users of social networks demanded to severely punish the murderer of Regina Gagieva, while North-Ossetian activists founded a movement to help victims of domestic violence.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Regina Gagieva, a 22-year-old resident of Vladikavkaz, who got multiple stab wounds, died on September 25. According to investigators, the woman's former husband inflicted fatal wounds to her out of jealousy.

According to a sister of Regina Gagieva, the husband often beat the victim, but law enforcers did not respond to her complaints.

In North Ossetia, after the death of Regina Gagieva, activists founded a movement against domestic violence entitled "Xotae", which meant "sisters" in Ossetian. At present, the project involves 20 people, including journalists, photographers, bloggers, psychologists, lawyers, and human rights defenders, reports the movement on its Instagram page xotae_iumae.

One of the objectives of the project is to "destroy the stereotypical opinion of society on the justification of violence by cultural or traditional norms."

The activists of the movement "Xotae" will accompany women who fell victim to domestic violence to the police, says Elina Valieva, one of the organizers of the project.
