Veterans of Afghan War stop their picket in Makhachkala

The picket of Dagestani Afghan War veterans in Makhachkala ended after they managed to get promises from the authorities to solve their problems, Gasaini Gasainiev, the head of the initiative group of veterans, has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 17-25, several dozens veterans of the Afghan War went on a hunger strike, demanding the due housing from the Dagestani authorities. For a month, authorities failed to react to veterans' demands.

According to veterans of the Afghan War, they were deprived of the chance to get into the preferential waiting line for housing. Many veterans complain that they had been excluded from the queue because their documents had burned down. On October 4, protesters recorded an appeal to President Vladimir Putin, threatening to ignite protests in different regions of the country.

The protesters have dismantled the tent installed in the Makhachkala park on September 17, and went home, said Gasaini Gasainiev.

"The head of the republic has appointed responsible people with whom we should continue working to solve our housing problems," he has concluded.
