MMA fighter Ismailov stands up for journalist Gadjiev
Magomed Ismailov, a MMA (mixed martial arts) fighter, has regretted that he knew about the arrest of the journalist, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, but did not comment thereon, and promised that he would now follow the fate of the Dagestani journalist.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion section of the Dagestani "Chernovik" weekly and website, was arrested on June 18, 2019, under the case of financing terrorism. On November 12, the court extended his arrest until January 13, 2020.
Human rights defenders treat Gadjiev's case as a threat to all journalists in Russia; and the Human Rights Centre "Memorial" recognized him as a political prisoner. Gadjiev was accused under the above case after his publication of the charity of Israil Akhmednabiev, who had not been suspected of anything illegal at the moment the article was published, Vyacheslav Feraposhkin, an employee of the HRC "Memorial", has explained.
Magomed Ismailov, an MMA fighter, has placed a post on the Instagram in support of Gadjiev.
"I'm not sure that everyone knows about the situation with journalist, Abdulmumin Gadjiev. But I knew it; and brothers even contacted me asking to react and reveal my opinion on this situation!" the fighter has written.
