Twelve activists punished for protest outside parliament in Tbilisi

Ten protesters accused of hooliganism and disobedience to police at the parliament building in Tbilisi were arrested; a fine was imposed on one of them; another received a warning.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 18, law enforcers used a water cannon and tear gas to disperse the protest action near the parliament building in Tbilisi, detaining 37 activists.

The people who have come out to Tbilisi streets are demanding to remove Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the ruling party, from power, dismiss the government and hold early parliamentary elections "under an interim government and in the conditions of an independent electoral administration."

On November 20, the Tbilisi City Court ruled on 12 out of 37 activists, the "Sputnik Georgia" has reported.

The "News Georgia" adds that from the courthouse the arrested persons were convoyed to the temporary detention facility (known as the IVS).

Activists and oppositionists reacted to the court rulings with shouts and whistles; they chanted "Slaves!" Protesters have felt that by placing their comrades behind bars authorities are trying to prevent them from participating in the protest action scheduled for November 25, the "News Georgia" suggests.
