Six oppositionists detained on protest action near State Security Service of Georgia

The police detained protesters who tried to block the building of the State Security Service of Georgia, and all six detainees have already been released, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia reports. The detainees did not render any resistance to the police, although administrative protocols on their alleged disobedience to the police were drawn up against them, one of the protesters reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the protest actions are being held in Tbilisi starting from November 14. The protest began after Georgian MPs failed to pass a bill to change the electoral system.

The people who have come out to Tbilisi streets are demanding to remove Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the ruling party, from power, dismiss the government and hold early parliamentary elections "under an interim government and in the conditions of an independent electoral administration."

According to the Georgian MIA, today, about three dozen activists of youth branches of various opposition parties and the movement "Gabede" (Dare) have tried to block an entrance to the building of the State Security Service of Georgia and stop traffic on Vazha Pshavela Avenue. Meanwhile, a clash occurred between the police and the protesters. Six persons were detained under administrative articles about disobedience to the police and disorderly conduct, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported with reference to Kakha Bukhradze, the deputy chief of the patrol police department.

Members of the movement "Gabede" tried not to let the police take their detained colleagues away, the "Georgia Online" reported. All six protestors detained in front of the building of the Georgian State Security Service were released under recognizance not to leave.

Christina, one of the participants of the protest action, challenged the police version. "A group of activists was detained when they simply crossed a road on a zebra crossing. Policemen grabbed the activists and forced them into a police car, which doors were open. There was no confrontation, and the guys rendered no resistance. There were two young women among the detainees," the activist told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
