US Senator blocks resolution on recognition of Armenian Genocide

At the request of the White House official, for fear of worsening US-Turkish relations, Senator Lindsay Graham blocked the Senate vote on the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, the US Congress voted in favour of the above resolution aiming to increase the US influence in the Middle East, political analysts and journalists have suggested.

The massacres of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1917 have been recognized as Armenian Genocide by 49 US states (of which 35 did it at the level of laws) and the District of Columbia. Since March 20, 2019, Mississippi is the only state that has not done so.

The international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is not able to change the Turkish authorities' attitude to massacres of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, Armenian scientists and politicians have pointed out. In their opinion, only the Turkish society can influence the position of the state.
