Boss of Grozny MIA Branch put on US sanction list

The USA has imposed sanctions on Aslan Iraskhanov, the head of the Grozny Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), believing him involved in gross human rights violations, including extrajudicial executions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 20, 2017, the USA put Ramzan Kadyrov on the sanction list, claiming him responsible for extrajudicial executions, torture and other human rights violations in Chechnya.

"The USA reiterates its commitment to protecting human rights around the world. Combating human rights violations is an important part of this work," says the website of the US Department of State.

In September 2019, relatives of the persons from the Chechen "execution list" appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) with a complaint against the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), which has refused to initiate a criminal case on the possible murder of 27 residents of Chechnya. The Chechen authorities called the information on extrajudicial executions a fiction.
