Opposition achieves Khadjimba's resignation

The President of Abkhazia, Raul Khadjimba, is resigning, Sergey Shamba, a former Prime Minister of Abkhazia, and Beslan Bartsits, the incumbent Premier, have assured protesters in Sukhumi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Abkhazia had scheduled presidential re-election for March 22, 2020. Raul Khadjimba promised to appeal against the CEC's decision, treating the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) as "unjust." The opposition leader, Aslan Bzhaniya, handed a demand to resign over to Khadjimba and gave him time for an answer. When the two-hour deadline expired, the opposition went to storm the state summer cottage, where Khadjimba is residing.

Sergey Shamba addressed the oppositionists, who gathered at the Khadjimba's cottage that the latter had resigned.

This information was confirmed by Vice-Premier Beslan Bartsits. "In order to prevent bloodshed, so that at least some stability survives, Khadjimba decided to resign," he has stated.
