Law enforcers tighten document check at “Tangim” Mosque

During their Friday raid conducted on January 17, 2020, law enforcers demanded documents not only from those who drove away from the “Tangim” Mosque in Makhachkala in their cars, but also from pedestrians. They stopped more people than usual.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that law enforcers are conducting regular Friday raids in the vicinity of the “Tangim” Mosque in Makhachkala, explaining this by their concern about parishioners’ and citizens’ safety. They stop the cars leaving the mosque, check drivers’ and passengers’ documents and copy personal data from them.

On January 17, there were more law enforcers participating in the raid than usual; and they acted more actively, said the journalist, Idris Yusupov, who was present near the mosque during the raid. “They stopped many more people – not only car drivers, but also pedestrians. They copied passport data and wrote down people’s phone numbers,” Mr Yusupov told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent. In his opinion, this indicates the strengthening of the control over believers.

Idris Yusupov has added that he didn’t see anyone taken away by law enforcers to the police station.
