Colleagues of journalist Gadjiev note increase in number of people wishing to support him
On Monday, in Makhachkala, eight activists held solo pickets in support of arrested journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev. The number of the persons willing to openly support him will increase significantly in case if the authorities sanction a mass action, picketers believe.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Makhachkala, activists hold pickets every week with the demand to stop criminal proceedings against Abdulmumin Gadjiev.
In June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), was arrested in a case on terrorist financing.
According to Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the "Draft", car drivers traditionally express very great support for the picketers by honking or raising their hands. Magomed Magomedov believes this suggests that the circle of people who "internally support Abdulmumin Gadjiev" is expanding, and people themselves are becoming braver in expressing their support for Abdulmumin Gadjiev.
Salim, a resident of Makhachkala, came for the first time to the picket in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev. The man noted that he had not participated in rallies earlier. However, the delay in release of the journalist and the understanding that there would be no fair decision for Abdulmumin Gadjiev without a public reaction made Salim join the pickets.
The man believes that many residents of the republic do not dare to come to the rallies in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev because of fear of consequences.
