North-Ossetian resident accused of terrorism placed to punishment cell, his sister reports

After a transfer to a penal colony in the Saratov Region, Timur Tumgoev, a native of Vladikavkaz, sentenced on the charge of involvement in the ranks of Syrian militants, was placed to a punishment cell without any explanations. This was reported by a female relative of Timur Tumgoev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 26, 2019, the court found Timur Tumgoev, a native of Vladikavkaz, to be a member of a grouping of Syrian militants and sentenced him to 18 years of imprisonment in a penal colony. On October 15, 2019, the Supreme Court (SC) upheld the verdict.

According to investigators, in 2014, Timur Tumgoev joined the "Jeysh al-Mukhadjirin val-Ansar" grouping, considered by public prosecutors as a unit of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court. In June 2016, Timur Tumgoev was detained in Kharkov, and in September 2018, he was extradited to Russia. Timur Tumgoev called the charge unfair, but voiced his willingness to go to a penal colony "by the will of Allah."

Recently, relatives of Timur Tumgoev have learned that he had been transferred to a penal colony in the Saratov Region. "Upon his arrival at the penal colony, he was put in a punishment cell without any explanations. He was also refused in medical assistance," said Marina Tumgoeva, a sister of Timur Tumgoev, as quoted by the magazine "Dosh".

Timur Tumgoev fell ill during the transfer, his sister also reported.
