Rights defenders call on new presidential envoy to "go back to the good old days" in Northern Caucasus

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Vladimir Putin appointed Yuri Chaika, the former General Prosecutor, the presidential envoy to Northern Caucasus.
When Yuri Chaika held the position of the Minister of Justice and the General Prosecutor, he sided with human rights defenders, states Svetlana Gannushkina, the head of the "Civic Assistance Committee". She has expressed the hope that at his new position, Yuri Chaika will defend the rights of residents of Northern Caucasus.
Yuri Chaika is the most influential figure of the officials who ever held the position of the plenipotentiary envoy to Northern Caucasus, notes Mikhail Vinogradov, the president of the "Saint Petersburg Politics" Foundation.
