New park in Urus-Martan named after Akhmat Kadyrov

The first city park has been opened in the city of Urus-Martan. In order to flatter their boss, Chechen officials call any new objects after Akhmat Kadyrov, Ramzan's father, local residents, dissatisfied with the initiative, told the "Caucasian Knot".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Akhmat Kadyrov's cult in Chechnya was launched immediately after his death in 2004. The name of Kadyrov Senior was awarded, in particular, to a mosque and an avenue in the capital of Chechnya, a new neighbourhood in the Nadterechny District, the main sports complex of Grozny and a number of sports clubs.

The first park was opened in Urus-Martan; it occupies 5.6 hectares. The opening ceremony took place on January 31.

"The authorities have failed to come up with anything better than naming the park after Akhmat-haji [Kadyrov]. I highly respect this person, but the authorities should not bring everything to absurdity by awarding this name to everything that is possible. It's like in the USSR, where everyone and everything was tied with the name of Lenin. This is called a personality cult," Umar, a resident of Chechnya, a historian by education, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
