Attempt on blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov continues intimidation of Chechen Diaspora
An assassination attack on blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov is being actively discussed by members of the Chechen Diaspora. The authorities of Chechnya managed to spread an atmosphere of fear among Chechens in Europe, human rights defender Sasha Kulaeva notes.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 26, a man with a hammer entered an apartment of Tumso Abdurakhmanov and attacked him. Prior to the assassination attempt, the blogger received threats, a brother of Tumso Abdurakhmanov reported.
The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" associated the assassination attempt on Tumso Abdurakhmanov with threats voiced by Ramzan Kadyrov against critics.
The attack on Tumso Abdurakhmanov is widely discussed among members of the Chechen Diaspora, says blogger Adam Dervishev, who lives in France.
Tumso Abdurakhmanov was attacked "on the birthday of Magomed Daudov, who declared blood feud against the blogger," notes one of the Chechens living in Europe.
Paris human rights defender Sasha Kulaeva notes that for more than a year, Chechen refugees have been facing threats, and the aim of those threats to intimidate Chechen migrants is almost achieved.
According to the human rights defender, the investigation into the attack on Tumso Abdurakhmanov will be a "real test" for European law enforcement agencies. "The attacker has been detained ... The question is whether impunity will become a standard here as much as it has become the standard in Chechnya," the human rights defender said.
