Azerbaijan claims sniper shelling attacks in conflict zone

The positions of the Azerbaijani troops on the border with Armenia and in the Karabakh conflict zone were shelled 25 times within 24 hours, including from sniper rifles, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reports today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 4, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army were also shelled 25 times within 24 hours, while a day earlier ‑ 24 times.

The armed forces of Armenia used sniper rifles and 25 times violated the ceasefire in various directions of the front within 24 hours, the press service of the Azerbaijani MoD reports today.

"The positions of the Azerbaijani Army were shelled in the village of Gushchu Airym and at nameless heights in the Gazakh District, in the villages of Garaveliler, Geyali, and at nameless heights in the territory of the Gadabay District," the Azerbaijani MoD reports on its official website.

As at 10:25 a.m. Moscow time on today, the Ministries of Defence of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have not yet posted on their official websites any comments on the statement released by the Azerbaijani MoD.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.
