Quarantine results in decrease of people and transport flows in Baku streets

In Azerbaijan, the number of coronavirus infected patients has reached 87. The introduction of quarantine has led to a noticeable decrease of people and vehicles flows in Baku streets.

The special quarantine regime was introduced on March 24; people aged over 65 are prohibited from leaving their homes during the period from March 24 to April 20, 2020.

In Azerbaijan, March 20-28 are days-off because of Novruz Bayram. However, if in the past during this holiday, streets, parks, and entertainment centres were overcrowded, now there are noticeably fewer people in the city, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Earlier, cinemas, museums, theatres, and entertainment centres had been closed; and since March 24, with the introduction of the special quarantine regime, restrictions have been strengthened. Now, catering facilities work with on-site service from 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In the streets, we can see a noticeably increased number of policemen and medics in special outfits, who are disinfecting bus stops and streets.

"The state is persuading people to stay at home; however, it's difficult, especially in spring," said Tofig Guliev, a pensioner.

Shafa Agaeva, another pensioner, is unhappy with the quarantine regime. "We understand that they are taking care about us. But it's hard for us, elderly people, to stay in our tiny flats the time," the woman said.

Safura Samedova, a pensioner who lives alone, received help from her neighbours during quarantine.
