Ramzan Kadyrov comments on beatings of quarantine violators as "just rumours"

Police patrols monitoring the quarantine regime in Chechnya do not violate the law. This was announced by Ramzan Kadyrov after photos and videos of law enforcers armed with plastic pipes had appeared on the Internet.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 29, the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" reported that in Chechnya, law enforcers were armed with polypropylene pipes to punish violators of the quarantine measures. Later, Chechen Minister Djambulat Umarov denied the information about beatings of quarantine violators.

On March 30, during a live broadcast of the "Grozny" state-owned TV Company with the participation of Ramzan Kadyrov and embers of the operational headquarters to combat coronavirus, a correspondent of the newspaper "Vesti Respubliki" asked the leader of Chechnya a question about the use of force against quarantine violators.

Ramzan Kadyrov replied that those were "just rumours" and urged not to give in to provocations. According to the leader of Chechnya, so far, the republic's authorities are only warning the population. "And if there is actually a need, then, of course, we will take all measures. <...> I don't want thousands of people to die, and I won't let that happen. I'd better bury that human being, if I may call him like that, and I'll save my people," said the leader of Chechnya.

When answering the journalist's question, the leader of Chechnya said that he was personally supervising police raids and said that law enforcers did not violate the law, reported the Instagram public account "eldit_net" on March 30.
