South Ossetia restricts movement through its border with Russia

The authorities of South Ossetia have tightened the quarantine regime. Starting from April 2, only local residents returning home will be allowed to enter the republic, with the following mandatory two-week self-isolation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection, South Ossetia imposed quarantine for two weeks starting from March 27. Food service points, shopping centres, and shops, except groceries, are closed.

Starting from April 2, the South-Ossetian government has been restricting the movement through the border between Russia and South Ossetia at the "Ruk" checkpoint. South-Ossetian citizens returning home are allowed to cross the border. Later they are required to spend two weeks in self-isolation, the government of South Ossetia has announced in its decree published on the official government's website.

An exception concerning the movement through the border is made for heavy-truck drivers, officials, and agents of emergency services on business trips. Diplomats, soldiers and officers from the Russian military base, and border guards who are sent on trips may also cross the border. Local residents whom the South-Ossetian Ministry for Public Health has sent for medical treatment in Russia are also allowed to cross the border.
