Oppositionist Gumbatov placed again in mental clinic

After being discharged from the mental clinic, where the Azerbaijani oppositionist, Adil Gumbatov, was forcibly placed on the eve, he was again placed there. A few days before the re-hospitalization, doctors found him healthy. His party colleagues assert that Adil's forced hospitalization is the persecution for his criticizing the authorities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 30, Adil Gumbatov, a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was placed for forced treatment into the mental clinic. The reason was his criticism of the country's leadership, his party colleagues have asserted. On April 1, Gumbatov was discharged from the clinic, but then detained again and returned to the mental clinic.

His family learned about it a day after his disappearance, his wife, Aigyun Gumbatova, said. "Two days ago, the Sabunchi Court released him on the grounds that doctors had found him healthy. But two days later he was declared 'mentally ill'. This is absurd," Ms Gumbatova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

His party colleagues are outraged by his hospitalization and criticize the authorities. "Placing an oppositionist into a mental clinic looks like a new trend in authorities' policies. Apparently, the regime has decided to reanimate the disgusting practice of placing dissidents into mental hospitals," Ali Kerimli, the PFPA leader, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
