Chechen authorities link increase in coronavirus patients with crowded funerals

During the past 24 hours, two coronavirus patients died in Chechnya; and the number of infected persons has increased to 48, said Magomed Daudov, Speaker of the Parliament, linking the increase in incidence with the crowded funerals in the Shali District.

Daudov, who runs the regional coronavirus operative office, said on the Instagram that a sharp increase in the number of those infected was facilitated by this week's massive participation by residents of Chechnya to the funeral in the village of Novye Atagi, where coronavirus infected people were among the members of the deceased's family.

According to Daudov, they managed to identify 399 men and 29 women, who were present at the funeral in the above village; in total, 1996 people were placed under quarantine.

A large-scale street disinfection was carried out in Novye Atagi, local residents have reported.
