Residents of Southern Russia mark Circassian Flag Day at home

Coronavirus made corrections to the celebration of the Circassian Flag Day. Activists have posted flags on balconies and exchange posts with congratulations in social networks. Residents of Kabardino-Balkaria and Adygea has recollected traditional mass events on this day and noted that they were celebrating the holiday in self-isolation for the first time.

Because of the coronavirus epidemic, Circassian NGOs refused from holding mass events on the Circassian Flag Day, which is celebrated on April 25 in Karachay-Cherkessia, Adygea and Kabardino-Balkaria. On April 25, Circassians were offered to display flags from balconies, and set them up on the roofs of houses and on cars.

Various online events were timed to the Circassian Flag Day, including a contest for the best poem in the Circassian language on the theme of the flag among children, said Aslan Beshto, the chairman of the NGO "Kabardian Congress".

According to Ratmir Karov, an activist, at such a time, they need to focus not on celebrations, but on the support of those in need.

"We have fully provided the Syrian returnees with the necessary foodstuffs; now we are helping those who stay jobless during the pandemic," he said.
