Armenian and Azerbaijani filmmakers issue film about Karabakh conflict

A group of Armenian and Azerbaijani filmmakers have made a film about the conflict dated to the 26th anniversary of signing a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. It shows a possibility of cooperating in difficult political conditions, the NGO named "Reconciliation Resources" that has supported the project believes.

26 years ago, on May 12, 1994, in Nagorno-Karabakh, the parties to the conflict signed a ceasefire document. The film "Parts of circle: history of Karabakh conflict; chronicle of controversial history of long-standing Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict" is dedicated to this event.

The film was authored by a group of Armenian and Azerbaijani cinematographers and conflict experts supported by the above NGO "Reconciliation Resources", Lawrence Broer, Director of the Caucasian programme of the NGO, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, the main idea of the project was to combine the two narratives run by each party in conflict. "The idea is to explore ways out of the toxic informational war that dominates the region today and that encourages the cultures that recognize suffering of one party only and reject human losses on the other party as conspiracy or propaganda," Mr Lawrence Broer has stated.

"This project is designed to show that even in the most difficult political conditions, an inter-conflict cooperation is possible and can continue," he has added.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.
