Dagestani imams announce strict compliance with quarantine measures in mosques
Dagestan does not hold any mass religious events, and the holiday of Eid al-Fitr will not be an exception, the mosques of the republic assure. In villages, believers did not immediately refuse to visit mosques, the Imam from the Khasavyurt District reported.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in early April, Vladimir Vasiliev, the leader of Dagestan, threatened to bring to criminal responsibility organizers of collective prayers in mosques. In Dagestan, the catastrophic situation with the spread of the coronavirus infection arose not because some Muslims continued to visit mosques at the beginning of the period of self-isolation, but because the authorities did not take sufficient measures to restrict the movement of people, said Aina Gamzatova, the spouse and adviser to the Mufti of Dagestan.
By May 17, according to the Ministry for Public Health of Dagestan, 657 patients died from COVID-19 in the republic.
According to Assistant Imam Radjab Abdurakhmanov, the doors of the mosque administration in Makhachkala are open to visitors on urgent matters. Personal admission is subject to all safety precautions.
Imam Yusuf Gasanbekov has noted that villagers comply with the regime of self-isolation, and if they need to consult the Imam, they call him by phone.
Mufti Akhmad Afandi called on residents of Dagestan to celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Fitr in a close circle of their families and to refuse visiting relatives, neighbours, and friends. According to the official website of the Dagestani Muftiate, the Mufti also voiced a strict recommendation not to visit cemeteries this year.]
