Lawyers find it possible to punish the bosses of Magas clinic for circumcising girl

Both the doctor who performed the surgery and the clinic's bosses may respond for circumcising the girl in Ingushetia, the lawyers interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a woman from Chechnya had achieved an opening of a criminal case in Ingushetia about intentionally causing minor harm to the health of her nine-year-old daughter. The woman claims that her ex-husband with his new wife, without the mother's knowledge, took the girl to a clinic in Magas, where she was circumcised.

Doctors and clinic bosses may be held responsible for the illegal female circumcision in Ingushetia, Kseniya Babich, the press secretary of the "Legal Initiative", which has filed a complaint against the clinic, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on May 26.

According to her story, "an additional check will be conducted, and everyone who directly conducted and organized such operations will be held accountable."

The situation with the girl's circumcision may contain both civil and criminal liability, Musa Pliev, the managing partner at the "Pliev, Lepshakov and Partners" law firm, believes.

"The medical institution is responsible for the harm caused by the low-quality medical service. If the actions contain a criminal offense, the doctor is personally responsible, since the Criminal Code assumes no legal entities' criminal liability," said Mr Pliev.
