Activist Giyas Ibragimov detained in Baku at protest action

In Baku, policemen have detained Giyas Ibragimov, an activist, who on June 9 held a protest action on the roof of his house against harsh detentions of quarantine violators. Law enforcers have prevented Ibragimov from committing suicide, the city police have explained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 8, about 50 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan conducted a special operation in the Yeni Yasamaly residential complex in Baku. 11 people were delivered to the police station. According to the police, the detainees were throwing various items from the balconies at the law enforcers, who were detaining quarantine violators.

Giyas Ibragimov went to a protest action against actions of the police. The aim of the Ibragimov's action was to draw residents' attention to the detention of violators of the hard quarantine introduced last weekend by Azerbaijani authorities in major cities, the "Jam News" edition reported on June 9.

During his protest, Giyas Ibragimov noted that if a person cannot feel safe in his own home, then he should protest also at home. He climbed onto the roof of his house with a poster reading "Stop bending, don't keep silent, and say something," and through a loudspeaker called on townspeople to protest against law enforcers' tough actions. 10 minutes after the start of the protest, the activist was detained by the police, the publication emphasized.

Baku police explained Ibragimov' detention by curbing his attempted suicide.
