Georgia opens borders for foreign tourists

Starting from today, Georgia begins to welcome tourists from five countries of the European Union.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 1, it became known that the authorities of Georgia postponed the start of the tourist season for foreigners for a month by extending until July 31 the restriction on regular international flights.

Today, Irakli Chikovani, the advisor to the Prime Minister of Georgia, has reported that starting from July 8, the country opens its borders to citizens of five EU countries – Germany, France, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia – that have included Georgia in the list of safe countries and opened their borders for it.

According to Irakli Chikovani, citizens from the above mentioned countries may come to Georgia exclusively by direct flights, after filling out a special electronic questionnaire with indication where they intend to stay during their vacation in the country and what places they intend to visit. At the airport, foreign tourists will have temperatures measured upon arrival. In case if a person has temperature above 37 °C, a PCR test for the coronavirus infection will be made on the spot. Coronavirus testing will also be carried out for those tourists who visited non-EU countries with a "high degree of danger" over the past two weeks before arriving in Georgia, announces the Georgia's government press service in its report sent to the "Caucasian Knot".

Irakli Chikovani has noted that residents of other EU countries also may visit Georgia, but they will have to go through two-week quarantine at their own expense.
