In Adjara, protesters demand to open border with Turkey
On July 8, a protest action was held in front of the building for the Supreme Council of Adjara. Protestors demanded from the government to open the state border with Turkey or pay compensation for the loss of earnings from work in the neighbouring country.
The protesters claimed that because of the closure of the border since March, they had no earnings, and self-employed persons did not get compensation of 300 laris. In any case, such compensation is not enough, the protestors claim.
On July 8, Merab Bladadze, an independent member of the Supreme Council of Adjara, met the protesters. Merab Bladadze emphasized he agreed with the protestors' demand for monthly payments, the "Pirveli" TV Company reported.
On July 1, the people who earlier used to travel to Turkey for seasonal work held protest actions near the "Sarpi" border checkpoint. The protestors then also demanded to open the border and noted insufficient compensation, the "Georgia Online" reported on the day of the protest action.
