Armenia reports new shelling attacks on Azerbaijani border
Azerbaijani militaries continued shelling attacks on the border with the Tavush Region, the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported. The shelling was carried out on the positions stationed near dwelling settlements, the country's ombudsperson has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 12, a fight broke out on the border of the Tovuz District of Azerbaijan and the Tavush Region of Armenia, in which three Azerbaijani soldiers perished, and four others were wounded. Azerbaijan regarded the incident as an attempt of the Armenian troops "to launch an offensive in order to seize positions." The Armenian MoD blamed Azerbaijani authorities for incident.
The Azerbaijani MoD reports on shelling attacks on its positions in the zone of the Karabakh conflict and on the border with the Tavush Region of Armenia on the daily basis. Until the third decade of June, these reports mentioned some 20-30 shelling attacks per day, but then the number increased – on some days information was received about more than 50 shelling attacks, and on July 8 the MoD counted 78 shelling attacks undertaken within the past 24 hours.
The office of the Armenia's Ombudsperson has sharply condemned the shelling attacks and informed international human rights organizations thereabout.
On July 9, the Azerbaijani military analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" indicated the remaining threat of fighting between the troops of Azerbaijan and Armenia and in the zone of the Karabakh conflict.
