Armenia counts damaged houses after shelling on Azerbaijani border

During the shelling conducted by Azerbaijani militaries, in the Tavush Region of Armenia 22 houses were damaged, said Arman Tatoyan, the Armenian Ombudsman.

The situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border aggravated on July 12. According to official data, 40 persons fell victim to the conflict. On July 15, the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced a decline in the conflict escalation.

According to the Armenian side, the situation worsened after an Azerbaijan's attempt to break through the border. In its turn, Baku claims that the conflict escalated after the Armenian militaries tried to go on an attack. The residents of Armenia dwelling settlements that came under fire, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", stated that so far they would not leave their homes.

According to Mr Tatoyan, a textile factory was shelled in Berd, but the shell hit a nearby cognac factory, which now produces medical masks. "This is troubling, especially considering COVID-19," he said, reminding that the UN called for freezing conflicts during the pandemic.

According to Artsrun Ovannisyan, the spokesman of the Armenian MoD, there is a lull at the border; the ceasefire and non-shelling regime has been maintained for almost the last 24 hours.
