Ukraine's statement on conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan leads to protest in Yerevan
On July 15, the youth wing of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" Party held a rally in front of the Ukrainian Embassy in Armenia. The activists protested against the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine concerning the "territorial integrity of Azerbaijan" in connection with the aggravation of the conflict on the border. The protesters poured borsch over the building of the Ukrainian Embassy.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the situation on the border in the Tovuz District of Azerbaijan and the Tavush Region of Armenia escalated on July 12. On both sides, 40 people were killed and injured. On July 15, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia announced de-escalation. However, today, the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan announced the resumption of hostilities. Armenia reported that the Azerbaijani troops were again shelling near-border villages.
The activists reacted to the statement of the Ukrainian MFA concerning that the situation should be politically resolved "on the basis of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," said Gor Sargsyan, an organizer of the protest action.
The protesters called on the Ambassador of Ukraine to Armenia to appeal to the authorities of his country with a request "not to interfere in someone else's conflict."
According to the Armenian side, the situation on the border has worsened after an attempt of the Azerbaijani troops to cross the border. In turn, the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan claims that the conflict escalated after the Armenian armed forces had tried to go on the attack.
