Law enforcers refuse to raid "Tangim" Mosque on Eid al-Adha

Because of the threat of coronavirus infection, the managers of the "Tangim" Mosque in Makhachkala have urged women and children not to participate in the festive prayer; and there were fewer people praying on Eid al-Adha than in previous years. Law enforcers did not conduct their traditional Friday raid in the vicinity of the mosque.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, July 31 was declared a day-off in Dagestan. Many of the believers who came to the Juma Mosque for the festive namaz (prayer) on the occasion of the holiday, despite the call of the Muftiate, were without medical masks. Some of the residents of Dagestan, whose incomes have dropped amid quarantine, refused to buy sacrificial cattle this year.

The festive namaz in the "Tangim" Mosque was held in compliance with all the anti-epidemic norms, each prayer was given a mask, said Magomed Magomedov, a mosque representative.

He has noted that usually believers came to the festive prayer with their whole families, with children, but this time the mosque management had announced that only men should be present at the prayer, so as not to put women and children at risk.

There were no usual law enforcers' raids today, said the source.

Due to coronavirus, the "Tangim" Mosque was closed from March 29 to July 10. With the resumption of Friday services, law enforcers began conducting their Friday raids, during which they stopped believers' cars.

In previous years, the children who came to the festive namaz were handed out sweets and gifts; now they had to abandon this, Idris Yusupov, a journalist, has noted.
