Opening Russian border alarms Abkhazian officials

At an emergency sitting, Alkhas Kondjariya, the deputy head of the Abkhazian Ministry of Public Health (MPH), said that the opening of the Abkhazian-Russian border amid the increase in the number of COVID-19 infected people was a surprise for the MPH.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Russia had made a decision to open the border with Abkhazia on August 1; on the same day, the Abkhazian authorities lifted the restrictions imposed because of coronavirus.

On August 2, an emergency sitting was held at the Abkhazian MPH, at which the epidemiological situation after the opening of the border with the Russian Federation was discussed. The MPH reports about this in its page on the Facebook.

Alkhas Kondjariya, a deputy head of the MPH, said that on the eve of the border opening, a coronavirus outbreak was recorded in Abkhazia. According to his story, the border opening was a surprise for the MPH, since initially the coordination headquarters discussed a phased opening, which provided for the presence of certificates or covid passports.
