Veterans of power structures disbelieve version about Umarov's escape
The statements of Chechen law enforcers about the escape of Movsar Umarov are unconvincing, since nothing is known about the punishment of those who had guarded the detainee, former law enforcers assert. Ruslan Kutaev, the President of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, has noted that watching Tumso Abdurakhmanov's videos, in connection with which Umarov was detained, is treated by law enforcers as a sign of disloyalty.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Eset Umarova, the mother of Movsar Umarov, a Grozny resident, said that he was detained for watching the blog of Tumso Abdurakhmanov, a renowned critic of the Chechen authorities. According to her story, law enforcers had tried, by threats of lengthy imprisonment, to force Movsar to help them in catching militants. Then, the mother was told that her son had fled. She suggested that Movsar had fallen victim to an extrajudicial killing.
Special services are using detainees as "bait" for militants, but in this case this version looks unconvincing, said Gennady Gudkov, a former KGB officer. He was also sceptical about the law enforcers' statements about Umarov's escape.
Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the international social and political movement "Assembly of Caucasian Nations", has confirmed that people who are watching Abdurakhmanov's videos are punished in Chechnya.
