Armenian soldier killed on border with Azerbaijan

Ovik Tamazyan, a 29-year-old Junior Sergeant, died from gunshot and shrapnel wounds, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia reports today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 15, the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan released a report about the wounding of a soldier in the Tovuz District. On the same day, the Armenian MoD declared that the information from Baku was not true, since on September 15, according to Yerevan, no shelling attacks were registered in the Tavush direction either from Armenia or from Azerbaijan.

The soldier was killed in one of the military units deployed near the border with Azerbaijan, reported Shushan Stepanyan, the press secretary of the Armenian MoD. "On September 16, at a combat position of one of the military units, Junior Sergeant Ovik Tamazyan, a 29-year-old contract soldier, got fatal gunshot and shrapnel wounds," Shushan Stepanyan reported.

Meanwhile, the press secretary of the Armenian MoD did not disclose the exact place where Ovik Tamazyan had been killed.

Let us remind you that escalation of the conflict on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan took place on July 12. According to the official information, in the period from July 12 to July 27, six soldiers from the Armenian side were killed and other 38 people were injured, including 35 soldiers, two policemen, and one civilian. The authorities of Azerbaijan reported about 13 killed and four wounded soldiers.
