Tofig Yagublu stops his hunger strike after release from custody

A court has decided to transfer under house arrest Azerbaijani oppositionist Tofig Yagublu, who is seeking a reconsideration of the verdict in a case on disorderly conduct. Tofig Yagublu agreed to stop his hunger strike, while being on protest for the 17th day.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that with his hunger strike, Tofig Yagublu demanded to cancel his conviction and acquit him in the case on disorderly conduct. Even during the trial, he declared that the trial was biased and accused the court of "fulfilling a political order."

A Tofig Yagublu's daughter informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that her father had stopped the hunger strike. "We informed the father about the court's decision and called him on to stop the hunger strike, because his release from custody is the first step to the full restoration of justice. After that, the father stopped his hunger strike," said Nigyar Khazi.

Tofig Yagublu has already been discharged from the medical facility, and he will undergo the further rehabilitation at home, Nigyar Khazi reports.

The oppositionist thanked everyone who supported him during the hunger strike. "I will continue fighting for justice and truth. I do not abandon my position: the charges brought against me are far-fetched. The trials, the investigators, and their witnesses are participants in the falsification, and they are to be brought to responsibility for that," said Tofig Yagublu as quoted today by the Azerbaijani information agency "Turan".
