Ingush activist Isropil Nalgiev released after conviction

A court found Isropil Nalgiev, a participant of a rally in Magas, guilty of attacking a law enforcer, but recognized the term of punishment as served during the arrest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Isropil Nalgiev was detained on February 4, and since then, he has been in custody. The activist denies the prosecutor's version of the political motives for his attack on the law enforcer in March 2019, but admitted that he had thrown a chair at the policeman.

The judge agreed with investigators that Isropil Nalgiev felt political enmity towards Ingush leader Yunus Bek-Evkurov and considered that fact as an aggravating circumstance.

Isropil Nalgiev was released in the courtroom, because one day of his detention was equalled to two days in a common-security penal colony, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reports on its website.

Let us remind you that on March 26, 2019, opponents of the agreement on the Chechen-Ingush border refused to disperse after the rally in Magas had finished. On the other day, law enforcers tried to disperse the protestors, and clashes occurred. Later, ordinary participants of the rally were accused of attacks on law enforcers, and rally organizers were accused of creating an extremist community.
