Nine activists urge to close case against Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev
In Makhachkala, participants in a series of solo pickets demanded to stop the criminal prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev. The activists filed a complaint to the Prosecutor's Office with a request to punish the official from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Dagestan, who had banned a mass rally in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that every week, in Makhachkala, colleagues and friends of the arrested journalist hold actions with the demand to release him.
Since June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev has been under arrest in a case on financing of terrorism. On September 9, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan left him in custody for other three months. Abdulmumin Gadjiev pleads not guilty.
Today, nine persons have come to solo pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, and 15 others supported them. According to journalist Idris Yusupov, passers-by were expressing their interest in the situation with Abdulmumin Gadjiev, and drivers passing by were honking in support. The journalist notes that today, more people have come to pickets than a week ago.
Human rights defender Ziyautdin Uvaisov believes that the weekly pickets draw attention to the prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev.
The newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft) posts articles by Abdulmumin Gadjiev, in which the defendant considers the materials of the criminal case and proves the inconsistency of the prosecutor's arguments, says Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik".
