Armenia and Azerbaijan agree on new truce

The parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict have announced a ceasefire since midnight on October 18.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 10, an agreement on ceasefire in the Karabakh conflict zone entered into force, but the parties to the conflict continued to report about battles and shelling attacks.

"The Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan have made a decision to declare a humanitarian truce since 0:00 a.m. local time on October 18," the "Interfax" has quoted the statement of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

The Azerbaijani MFA has also announced a truce from 0:00 a.m. on October 18. This decision was made after the statements made by the presidents of France, Russia and the United States, who are representing the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group; the statements by the co-chairs of the above Group, and in accordance with the Moscow statement of October 10, 2020, the publication says.

Representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh did not participate in the negotiations, but the Karabakh MFA has reacted positively to the decision. "We welcome the efforts of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and Armenia on a ceasefire in the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict zone in order to reduce tensions. The Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") confirms its readiness to observe the ceasefire for humanitarian purposes," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has translated the statement of the MFA of Nagorno-Karabakh.
