In Yerevan, protestors demand to recognize independence of Nagorno-Karabakh

Activists handed over to the UN Resident Coordinator for Armenia a letter requesting him to visit the Karabakh conflict zone and recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. The protesters gave UN officers two days to examine the situation and threatened with holding large-scale protest actions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, members of the Azerbaijani and Turkish communities gathered in front of the UN headquarters in New York and requested the international organization to respond to shelling attacks on the Azerbaijani city of Ganja. At a similar action in Yerevan, protesters have invited UN officers to personally register shelling attacks on villages, towns, and cities in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Siranush Sargsyan, a resident of Stepanakert, has stated that the protest action will continue until Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator for Armenia, comes out to the protestors. Otherwise, they will block the exit from the UN office.

The woman has noted that in Karabakh, Azerbaijan "with the support of Turkey violates all international conventions", but the UN, which competence is to suppress crimes against humanity, does not respond to the situation.

"Savage behaviour and crimes against humanity should not occur in the civilized world," said Anait Beglaryan, another participant of the protest action. The woman believes that the world has turned a blind eye to the aggressive actions of Azerbaijan and Turkey in relation to Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to protestor Stella Sargsyan, other countries act out of their business and political interests and ignore humanistic values.
