25 people detained at protests in Yerevan
In Yerevan, the police disperse protesters who block streets of the city and demand the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The number of 25 detainees includes Ara Sagatelyan, the former chief of the administration of the Armenian parliament.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the agreement between Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia on the cessation of the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh provoked riots in Yerevan and protests with the demand of the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. On November 11 and 12, the rallies organized by the opposition were followed by mass detentions. On November 19, 24 activists were taken to police stations.
On November 11, the parliament was to consider the issue concerning the Nikol Pashinyan's resignation, but the consideration failed due to the lack of a quorum: MPs from the ruling "My Step" faction did not come to the parliament meeting.
"I believe that now all conscientious citizens should take to the streets and prevent the betrayal," said Ara Sagatelyan as quoted by the "Sputnik Armenia".
The protesters are dissatisfied with the peace agreement, according to which Azerbaijan takes over the territories of Nagorno-Karabakh captured during the hostilities and returns the territories of five regions adjacent to Karabakh, that is, the so-called "Security Belt".
