Armenian Prosecutor's Office accuses Azerbaijan of destroying monuments and churches

The General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia has collected evidence of the destruction and desecration of churches and historical and cultural monuments in the territories that came under the control of Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the territories transferred to Azerbaijan, more than half of the historical monuments have been destroyed, the acting Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan announced on November 24. He urged UNESCO to protect Islamic and Christian cultural monuments in Nagorno-Karabakh.

In the period from September 27 to November 9, 2020, during artillery shelling attacks, the armed forces of Azerbaijan damaged the church of Kazanchetsots Surb Amenaprkich in the city of Shushi (the Azerbaijani name is Shusha, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"). Furthermore, then they desecrated the outer and inner walls of the church by leaving various inscriptions on them, the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia reports today.

Furthermore, the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia has announced the destruction and insult of the monument to victims of World War II in the village of Avetaranots and khachkars (stone crosses) located in various settlements of Nagorno-Karabakh and the cemeteries of Armenian soldiers. The General Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into criminal cases instituted under the article on intentional destruction or damage to property, the official website reports.
