Internet users criticize authorities for energy shortages in Nagorno-Karabakh

Residents of Nagorno-Karabakh are experiencing problems because of the shortage of infrastructure facilities. Among other problems, the people are cut off from the electricity supply and Internet access. Internet users criticize the regional authorities for inaction amid the humanitarian crisis.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Nagorno-Karabakh faced a shortage of energy after the agreement on the ceasefire had been signed. Out of 36 hydroelectric power plants (HPPs), only six remain in the region, and their capacities are insufficient to provide the supply of electricity to the entire population, the Ministry of Economy of the unrecognized republic reports.

On December 1, user Lika Zakharyan wrote on her Facebook page that in Nagorno-Karabakh, many towns and villages, including the Tagavard village in the Martuni District, were cut off from the electricity and gas supply and Internet access, while their infrastructure facilities were destroyed. By 12:30 p.m. Moscow time on December 10, the above Lika Zakharyan's post gained 1211 marks with users' reactions and 12 comments. Some of the social network users criticized the authorities of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. "The country does not have a government at the moment. Those, who are called the government, try to avoid the problems and do nothing because of their cowardice and ignorance. But we still have to fight," wrote user Tigran Hakhumyan.

"That's a kind of anarchy. How could they leave their people to the mercy of fate?" user Karina Abadjyan agreed with user Tigran Hakhumyan.

"Recently, more and more often, I get the feeling that there is no government at all and that everything that is happening is some kind of a natural disaster <...>," user Anait Umurshatyan noted.
