The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 14, 1995, a grouping of Chechen militants led by Shamil Basaev entered the territory of the Stavropol Territory and captured the central hospital of Budyonnovsk. As a result of the terror act, 129 people were killed, and other 317 were injured. The militants set free the remaining hostages in exchange for a promise from the Russian authorities to stop combat actions in Chechnya.
