Chechen resident to spend 12 years in prison for attack on Budyonnovsk

In Rostov-on-Don, a court found Aslan Daudov, a resident of Chechnya, guilty of hostage-taking, terrorism, and premeditated killing during the 1995 attack by Shamil Basaev's grouping on Budyonnovsk. The defendant was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 14, 1995, a grouping of Chechen militants led by Shamil Basaev entered the territory of the Stavropol Territory and captured the central hospital of Budyonnovsk. As a result of the terror act, 129 people were killed, and other 317 were injured. The militants set free the remaining hostages in exchange for a promise from the Russian authorities to stop combat actions in Chechnya.

Aslan Daudov pleaded partially guilty, the case was considered by the Southern District Military Court, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by an officer of the Court's press service. However, the officer did not disclose the information concerning under which articles Aslan Daudov pleaded guilty.

Investigators suggest that the defendant was a member of the armed grouping led by Shamil Basaev and took part in its attacks. Aslan Daudov is accused of taking hostages, terrorism, and premeditated killing under aggravated circumstances, the press service of the Southern District Military Court reports.
