Ingush activist Myakiev stands up for political prisoners

Today, Bagaudin Myakiev, who served his sentence in a case on clashes with the police, has posted on the Internet a photo with a poster, in which he pointed to the freedom of assembly guaranteed by the Constitution and demanded to release participants of the protest in Magas.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Bagaudin Myakiev was detained in April 2019, shortly after a rally in Magas. On February 20, 2020, he was sentenced to one year and nine months of imprisonment in a penal settlement-colony. On April 22, the court toughened the punishment for the activist and transferred him to a common-security penal colony. On the same day, Bagaudin Myakiev was detained on the charge of escaping from the courtroom. On August 27, the activist was released.

On March 26, 2019, residents of Ingushetia continued their protest rally in Magas without a sanction from the authorities. In the morning on March 27, protesters clashed with the police. Starting since the early April of 2019, mass arrests of oppositionists took place in Ingushetia. According to the calculations run by "Caucasian Knot", at least 96 activists were prosecuted.

The photo posted today by Bagaudin Myakiev on his personal Facebook page depicts him standing with a poster in his hands on which he points to Article 31 of the Russian Constitution on freedom of assembly. "Freedom for political prisoners", "Freedom for the Elders", "Freedom for our patriots", "Freedom for Zarifa Sautieva", the activist wrote on the poster. The date on the photo is December 24.

Bagaudin Myakiev held a protest action in the Nazran office of the Ingush Council of Teips (family clans) in Nazran with the demand to release the participants of the protest in Magas, the website of the Ingush activists "Fortanga" reports. This is the seventh action of that kind held by Bagaudin Myakiev since his release from the penal colony.
