Twenty-five protesters detained in Yerevan

The opposition tried to prevent the visit of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to the government building. The police cordoned off the building and detained several people.

The earlier action with the demand for Nikol Pashinyan's resignation took place on February 22. The protesters marched through the streets of Yerevan. They were throwing eggs at the building of the Investigating Committee and chanting "Shame".

The oppositionists did not plan to assault the building, but "their goal was to demonstrate that Nikol Pashinyan feared the opposition," said Gegam Manukyan, a member of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" Youth Wing. He and some other protesters were detained by the police.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learned from Edgar Djanoyan, the deputy chief of the police department for public relations and media, that the police detained 25 protesters. The police spokesman emphasized that the reason for the detention was the failure of the protestors to obey to the legal requests of the police.

Let us remind you that the peace agreement, signed by the parties to the Karabakh conflict on November 9, 2020, provoked protests demanding the resignation of the Armenian Prime Minister. Most of the protest actions were organized by 17 opposition forces, which also created the "Rescue Committee". The President of Armenia and the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II called on Nikol Pashinyan to resign.
